Programs For Teens

“I absolutely loved your speaking today, you presented it so well, and kept me entertained the whole time, I literally couldn’t stop listening, everything you said was so relevant, one thing you talked about that really effected me was when you talked about putting the blame on one thing, and how you talked about how we are all important individuals and how we are all on this world for a reason. I would love to meet you again and I personally think that what you said would have changed many peoples lives including mine. Thank you so much, I enjoyed every minute of it.”  Maddy (Student)

“Decide Your Own Destiny” – Keynote Presentation

crowd1Audience: Year 7 – 12
Focus:
Motivation, Self Esteem, Bullying, Success, Responsibility, Prevention
Content: Nathan’s own story of being born with a disability, facing bullying and overcoming adversity to live the life of his dreams
Length: 60 minutes

Imagine an audience of hundreds of teenagers, in fits of laughter, being drawn in, opening their hearts and minds. Then the raw truth of life comes into full view. The story of a boy born with a disability, the first known case in Australia, facing the future of being different, but desperately wanting just to fit in. Facing teasing, bullying and being labelled. Going through the grief of losing his mum at a young age, but rising above the ‘stuff’ to choose his own adventure, to create his own future – to decide his own destiny.

Nathan understands what it feels like to try to form and discover your own identity and purpose. He has learned that life’s battles can be won, armed with a sense of humor and an optimistic attitude. Sharing his struggles, Nathan encourages young people to view their lives through a new lens. This empowering story of triumph encourages teens to understand that our destiny is not determined by the ‘stuff’ that happens to us, the ‘stuff’ which is out of our control. But our destiny is determined by the decisions we make in response to those things.

In a recent evaluation of the Atlanta-based Resolving Conflict Creatively (RCCP), a multi-school project which has social-emotional learning techniques at the core of its pedagogy,”there was generally less school violence, and there was increased self-esteem, improved abilities to help others, and greater personal responsibility for resolving conflicts among participating youngsters. After only two years of implementation, there were substantial improvements in participating schools’ course failure, dropout, student attendance and suspension rates.” Dr. Stanley J. Schneider, Senior Vice President of Metis Associates.
